The documentary covers the change in festival music, and popular music through the years. At the beginning of every interview it will show how the person listens to their music. This means if someone has a vinyl player the interview will start with the person going through the process of getting the vinyl out and putting it on their record player.

Compare your idea to other documentaries
|
The documentary is similar to the documentaries; Metal Evolution, Supersonic, and Foo Fighters: Back and Forth. These documentaries will influence my documentary as they all show a change in the music scene and feature interviews on music and bands. My documentary will incorporate the footage of performances and interview footage.
| |
Target audience
|
Who would watch your documentary?
|
The target audience for the documentary will be young adults aged 17-20 who enjoy multiple genres of music. This is the target audience as people of these ages are usually interested in music festivals and will have an opinion related to the topic of the documentary. The initial target audience might be 17-20 year olds however fans of rock can span multiple generations. This means that parents might want to go to see the documentary with their children who are also fans of the music.

What are some key bits of information about your topic
|
Some of the key facts will be the names and dates of famous festival acts in the UK. These will be included to show how music festivals have changed over the years. Figures will also be shown to show the attendance of the festivals.
| |
Key moments
|
What will be the focal points of your documentary
|
The key moments of the documentary will be an interview with my dad's uncle who founded the company Audiolease who provided equipment for huge bands such as Motorhead, The white stripes, and Whitesnake. I would then interview my guitar teacher and film one of his performances at a local pub. I will show archive footage of bands like motorhead who would have used the equipment under Audiolease.
| |
Mode
|
What mode and why it would be suited for your documentary
|
The mode of the documentary will be expository. It will be in this style as it will include interviews with people who have altering opinions of music genres and footage of music festivals. The documentary will also be reflexive at parts.

Explain how you could expand this project out into something bigger
|
To expand this project I could film at music festivals of different sizes in the UK to compare the genres of music and how participants feel towards the shift in mainstream genres. I would also request to interview famous musicians and big names in the music industry.

What would be the best way to advertise your product
|
To advertise the documentary i would have posters in local music shops and around franchise music stores such as HMV. I would also have a facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages promoting the documentary. These pages would promote the film and have clips from the documentary to entice viewers. I would go on radio shows to talk about the documentary and other talk shows on youtube or on TV.

Proof of concept - put in a link to 30 seconds of material which shows your project will work, also detailing what you learnt and changed
|
The documentary will feature an old camera as well as a modern camera. The old camera will be used to film shots for on top of the interviews.

Synopsis

X & Y statement
Elevator pitch
|
A poetic documentary which covers the effects of global warming in the winter months. Half of the documentary will take place in the Aosta valley in Italy. The other half will take place in England around the cambridge area. The documentary will also have archive footage to show the change through the years and the difference between a ski resort location and England.
| |
Running time
|
What length is best suited, try and be as accurate as possible
|
The documentary will only last around 4 minutes. The documentary will only last this amount of time as it will just be shots of nature and mankind's effects on it. The short length of the documentary will also be representative of how time is running out to change global warming.

My documentary will be similar to Koyaanisqatsi which is a poetic documentary about mankind. It will be similar to Koyaanisqatsi as Koyaanisqatsi features no interviews or dialog and only features shots of nature and mankind. My documentary will be similar as Koyaanisqatsi is a good example of showing not telling and that is what my documentary will be about.
| |
Target audience
|
Who would watch your documentary?
|
The target audience for my documentary will be 14-18 year olds. This is because if young people do not change and attempt to fix the damage which the human race has done to the earth then it is their future which will be in ruin. The short length will also appeal to a younger demographic as younger people have a shorter attention span and will not enjoy a hour long no dialog documentary.

What are some key bits of information about your topic

“The Environmental Audit Committee warns of 7,000 heat-related deaths every year in the UK by 2050 if the government doesn't act quickly.”
“During the 2003 heatwave, excess deaths in nursing homes in parts of the UK rose by 42%.”
“From 1960 to 2017, the Alpine snow season shortened by 38 days—starting an average of 12 days later and ending 26 days earlier than normal. Europe experienced its warmest-ever winter in the 2015–16 season, with snow cover in the southern French Alps just 20% of its typical depth.”
“Last December was the driest in 150 years of record keeping, and the flakes that did manage to fall didn’t stay around long. The snow line—the point on a slope at which it’s high enough and thus cold enough for snow to stick—is about 3,900 ft., which is a historic high in some areas. But worse lies ahead as scientists predict melt even at nearly 10,000 ft. by the end of the century.”

Explain how you could expand this project out into something bigger
|
To expand the documentary I would travel around the world and film throughout the year to document the change in the conditions of other ski resorts at different times of the year. I would also hire out helicopters to access locations which I would be unable to reach without one. I would also travel to more remote ski locations around the world and see how global warming is affecting ski spots.

|
What would be the best way to advertise your product
|
To advertise the documentary I would promote it on facebook and send it to pages like LADbible as they have a viewer base of young teens who the documentary would be targeted for. I would also send it to ski pages to promote it as it covers a topic which affects skiers as global warming is damaging resorts and locations to ski at.

Script for documentary - Interview questions:
How did you get into skiing?
What would you say your favourite thing about skiing is and why?
How did you feel on the bus to Italy?
What was your most memorable skiing moment and why?
How do you feel when you are skiing?
How did the documentary which you analysed in P1 affect your planned documentary?
The documentary I analysed in P1 follows a similar mode to my first idea local rockstar. Like Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, Local Rockstar followed a reflexive style of documentary with interviews and also follows the observational mode as segments of the documentary will be observing a live performance. Whilst Local Rockstar follows the same modes as Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, My second documentary idea, Snowstorm does not follow the same modes. Snowstorm is more poetic and participatory. Rockstar follows the same modes as FF:Back and Forth as it is a similar style of documentary and has similar content in the documentary. FF: Back and Forth follows a group of people whereas Local Rockstar follows an individual. Snowstorm follows completely different styles and themes to FF:Back and Forth. Snowstorm features a lot more cinematic long shots and a wider variety shots whereas FF:Back and Forth features a lot more mid shots and close ups as it is interview based. Snowstorm will also feature time lapses which FF: Back and Forth does not feature. The content in snowstorm is very different to the content in FF: Back and Forth as it is about skiing and FF: Back and Forth is about a rock band. Fans of FF: Back and Forth will also be fans most likely of Local Rockstar as it follows an individual who is a talented guitar player and an entertaining performer. I do not think as many people who watched FF: Back and Forth would want to watch Snowstorm as they are both very different documentaries which cover different topics and themes.
